Introduction To Surfskis – 1½ hours

We’ll start this class getting familiar with the surfskis themselves, their designs, features. and variations and we’ll cover the specific types of equipment we use, such as leg and paddle leashes, wing paddles, rudders, and lifejackets.

After practicing “loose hips balancing” and ways to improve over time, we’ll go over the racers forward stroke and start the process of instilling muscle memory that leads to what we call “Economy-of-Motion”.

Before getting on the water to try out these boats and our new skills, we’ll discuss bracing and ways to prevent capsize, and remounting, ways to recover after a capsize. Ease of remounting is one of the main advantages of surfskis.
