“We visited BayCreek Paddling from out of state. Our experience there was wonderful. The staff was helpful and friendly. We had a great time and will definitely come back next time we are in the area.” – T.D
  • Where do most people paddle? Bay or Creek?
    • 90% head up the Creek and into the wetlands of the Secret Wilderness. The Creek is more sheltered and offers a closeness to nature. But, the Bay is also beautiful, bounded by cliffs and woods, though more exposed to wind, waves, and motorboat traffic.

  • Can I load my rental on my car and take it off-site?
    • No, due to insurance reasons, BayCreek only offers on-site rental services launching from our docks or designated shuttle locations.
  • I've never paddled before. Can I do it?

    Absolutely! Here’s the scoop:

    • Kayaks are the easiest and the most beginner-friendly.
    • Canoes require a bit more technique and can be difficult in wind.
    • Paddleboards are easier than they look. If you think you can do it, you probably can.

Regardless of the craft you choose, we’ll be happy to offer tips to get you going.

  • I have some physical limitations. Can you help me?
    • Yes, of course. We’ll do our best to help you in and out of your craft.
  • Can I take my phone with me?
    • Yes, by all means. If you don’t have a waterproof case, we rent drybags for just $2 to keep phones and other valuables safe and dry.   BayCreek is not responsible for lost or water damaged electronics. DUE TO COVID-19 DRY BAGS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL.

  • What are the age limits?
    • There is no minimum age if accompanied by an adult, so you can bring your infants if you’d like. We love to see families and we have life vests for all sizes.
    • If under the age of 18, you must have a parent sign the liability waiver and a person 18 or older must accompany you on the water.
    • You may print out the waiver and bring it with you.  Download Waiver

  • What animals might we see?
    • Birds typically seen are great blue herons, mute swans, redwing blackbirds, American bald eagles, Canada geese, mallard ducks and sometimes egrets, green herons, and even white pelicans. You also might see beavers, mink, muskrats, snapping turtles, slider turtles, fawns, and adult deer.

  • Can I bring my dog?
    • Yes, as long as your dog is well behaved and on a leash. Your dog may accompany you in canoes and kayaks, but not paddleboards (due to potential damage to the board pads).
“Great location to rent kayaks to explore either Irondequoit Bay or Creek. The staff is laid back and has always been very helpful.” – P. T.
  • What about the weather?
    • If the water is too cold, the wind too high, or if lightning is in the vicinity we will not allow rentals. At other times, we may not allow rental on the Bay due to high water or other conditions. If you have a question about today, call us.

  • What are the best days and times to paddle?
    • Weekdays are certainly quieter on the creek and morning are especially nice for nature observation. Mid-afternoon on weekends and holidays are our busiest times and occasionally there’s a short wait (10 minutes) for a boat.
